Extension 2: Rogitama Loop Birding

Trip Description

Brief Itinerary

This trip extension visits a number of unique birding locations, and offers opportunities to see uncommon and endemic birds around Columbia that may not be seen on the classic tour.  You will visit the Rogitama Biodiversidad, a farm turned into an ecological reserve, as well as remnant oak forest above Soatá, and Mundo Nuevo private reserve.  You will search for endemic birds like Apolinar's Wren, Black Inca, Matorral (Pale-bellied) Tapaculo, Flame-winged Parakeet, Mountain Grackle, Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird, Apical Flycatcher and Niceforo’s Wren, along with numerous other species.

Day 1: After early-morning flights arrival to Bogotá birding transfer to Rogitama visiting Fuquene Lake on the way

Day 2: AM birding in Rogitama and late morning drive to Soatá

Day 3: AM birding in Soatá to visit vast expands of Oak forest and afternoon return to Soatá to explore the dry habitat near the town

Day 4: Early morning birding near Soatá and mid- morning transfer to Zipaquirá

Day 5: Full day birding at Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza and drive return to Bogotá for the night
