Serra dos Carajás National Park was created by the mining industry to protect prime Amazon rain forest habitat as an offset to the work they are doing nearby.

The roads in the area, which have unfortunately cut through parts of the forest, make for excellent access to these forested areas for birding. The trails created throughout the National Park are also excellent for
birding most of the day.
