Brazil Rio Azul Tour Pricing

2024 and 2025 Pricing: $3,990 US Dollars, or £3,140 GBP*

for 8 Days and 7 Nights

Discount: You could pay $300 less for this tour, depending upon this tour and the Pantanal tour being fully viable at seven plus participants. This assumes you are booking both of these tours.

Inclusions:

  • The Tour package includes all lodging, meals*, and access fees to reserves, parks, and other birding sites.

  • Premier Bird Guide: All of our tours use the services of an excellent bird guide, often a well-recognized expert on birding in this area. We often use Lelis Navarrete on these trips.

  • Transport and Airport Transfers:

  •          o Local ground transport is included. This includes a large transport van (and/or jeep as needed).                  This tour also uses fluvial (boat) transport.
o We also have a driver or guide pick you up at the airport upon arrival, and transfers for internal                  flights are included, and we arrange for a transfer back to the airport at the end of the trip.

  • Small-Group PricingAll the prices mentioned above are for tour groups of seven or eight participants.  We will offer reasonable small-group supplements for group sizes of 4 to 6.

  • Private and Custom Group Pricing: We are glad to provide pricing for smaller groups (including couples) or custom groups.

Important Note:

  • This tour is based on clients accessing the Brazillian Amazon via Alta Floresta/Rio Azul.

  • Rio Azul is an excellent lodge (really one of the premier lodges in all of South America). With one of our premier South American birding guides, birding here is excellent. The cost per night may be prohibitive to some of our clients.

  • Depending upon interest and group size, we can develop Amazon tour extensions in several other locations.

    • This trip can be very even more affordable for clients who go to Carajas. Carajas offers opportunities to go deep into the Amazon rainforest. Early morning starts are required, and days often start with drives of an hour into Carajas National Park. Birding is very comparable to Rio Azul, with some of our top guides preferring birding here.

    • Another location is accessing Amazon species via Manaus. The Manaus itself adds several key species, and Amazon birding here can be comparable to other locations.

Possible Additions to Basic Trip Pricing:

  • With Lelis Navarrete as Lead Guide: Add $100 (80 GBP*) to the basic trip price for the additional costs of using South America's top birding guide.

Optional Costs for Booking the Trip:

Single Room Supplement: $720 USD (or £570 GBP*) is the price we charge for the additional cost of anyone not sharing a room with another birder (and/or a spouse). If you want a single room, please let us know. We are often able to find a roommate for those wanting to share a room.

Notes on Other Tour Costs: Exclusions:

    • US Dollar Pricing: The US Dollar has been fairly strong against the Brazilian Real in the last few years. Most pricing for the trip has been in US Dollars with most lodges switching to US Dollar pricing in recent years. Thus, we use US Dollars as the currency for pricing this trip.

    • Pricing in British Pounds: (1) Our 2025 (and late 2024) price estimates are mostly based on US Dollars; so, our GBP/British Pound pricing is based upon an exchange rate of .79 GBP (British Pound) per US Dollar (the exchange rate on March 19, 2024). (2) We will charge you the actual transaction rate here, but please note that we work to minimize transaction costs. Using Transferwise, we usually pay under one-half a percent (and sometimes less) on the actual exchange. (3) Due to costs related to UK travel regulations, our tours booked and paid through BlueTailBirding.com (for the UK and European clients) will cost 200 GBP more. Please contact us anytime with questions here.

    • Bank Fees: We do not charge bank fees for wire transfers for clients paying into our accounts in the United States, the United Kingdom, and/or Canada.

    • Note on Meal Inclusion: Meals include three meals per day during any full day of the trip. The arrival day does have supper, as we arrive at the lodge in the afternoon. The departure day includes only breakfast, as most flights leave in the morning.

    • Note on Beverage Inclusion: Most of our meals are provided by the lodges, and we follow their practices in providing beverages at meal time. Breakfast usually includes coffee or tea and/or juice (as provided by the lodge), and box lunches include either bottled water or juice. Other beverages served at supper are your choice and are an additional expense that you pay to the restaurant directly. We provide water at the table for supper. We also provide bottled water during the birding day.

    • Group Size: We anticipate a group of 7 or 8 participants, and pricing is based on this group size. We will offer a moderate and reasonable small-group supplement for 6 to 5 participants. Even 2 participants can be accommodated fairly easily here.

    • You will need to pay your international flight cost to get from your local airport to Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo in Brazil. From either of these major cities, you can fly to Cuiaba. We will figure out the least expensive internal flight plans for the group, and book the internal flights to Brazil. We do charge actual costs for flights. Booking flights in Brazil can be a bit of fine art, generally budgeting about $150 to $200 (£120 to £160 GBP*) per leg of flight after arrival in one of the major cities (most clients fly into Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo).

      • Assuming you start this tour in Cuiaba, you will need to purchase a round-trip flight to Alta Floresta. We booked the flights from Cuiaba to Alta Floresta round-trip last year for under $220 to $400 per person.

    • The tour fee does not include taxes/fees for entering or exiting the country, telephone calls, laundry, and other items of a personal nature.

    • Tips for birding guides and trip drivers are not included in the tour price. You can choose to pre-pay trips to meal service and housekeeping staff.
