Brief Itinerary

Travelling by air, road, and boat, we will explore the diverse habitats of the country from winding lowland rivers and sprawling grasslands to rich highland ecosystems and forested valleys.

Our eighteen-day tour covers the highlights of this enchanted and under-travelled country in depth. We can expect a phenomenal variety of remarkable birds and vast regions of immaculate forests that have been  experienced by few people on earth.

Day 1:  Arrivals in Port Moresby and Afternoon Birding
Day 2:  Full Day Birding at Varirata National Park
Day 3:  Early AM Flights to Mount  Hagen; Birding Kumul Lodge and Fantastic Feeders; PM drive out for Productive Birding at a Private Garden; Night Birding from Kumul Lodge
Day 4: Morning Birding Kumul Area: Blue Bird-of-paradise and More in AM; Short Birding Drive to Sirunki (Enga Province) for PM Highlands Birding Start
Day 5: Full Day Birding the Montane Area of Sirunki at Puman Daka and More
Day 6: Full Day Birding Montane Area of Sirunki at Mount Komonge Ridge and More, Covering More Montane Forests and Grasslands
Day 7: AM Drive from Yaskom Area to Mount Hagen; PM Fantastic Feeders at Mount Hagen and More
Day 8: Full Day Birding Kumul Area: Lesser Bird-of-paradise at Kama and More in AM; More Birding Kumul Trails in PM
Day 9: AM Final Kumul Area Birding; Post Lunch Flight to Tabubil; Start Our Birding in the Foothills of the Star Mountains

Day 10: Full Day Birding the Tabubil Area: Daplane Creek and Okmenga Tunnel and More

Day 11: Full Day Birding the Tabubil Area: Further into Field for New Sites and New Birding
Day 12: Another Full Day Birding the Tabubil Area: Birding the Megalsim and Teliformin Road
Day 13:  AM Final Tabubil Area Birding and Birding New Road to Kiunga; and PM Birding in Kiunga Area
Day 14:  Full Day Birding Fly River Boat Trip with Essential Birding for Birds-of-paradise and More; Late PM Birding and Wildlife from Kwatu
Day 15: AM Birding Near Kwatu Lodge and Trails; then Birding Elevala River with Forest Birding Stops and with More Fluvial Birding as Return to Kiunga
Day 16: Full Day Birding in the Kiunga Area

Day 17: Final Morning Kiunga Birding; Mid-Day Flight to Port Moresby; and PM Birding Near Lodge
Day 18: Final Birding in Papua New Guinea at the Pacific Adventist University in the Morning; Flight Transfers Out from Late Morning to Early Afternoon for Most Trip Participants
