Bios: Premier Local Guides

Diswal Takasaheng
Born in the city of Bitung and now based in Batuputih Village, Diswal Takasaheng is an experienced birding and wildlife guide from North Sulawesi, Indonesia. With more than 17 years of guiding experience, he has developed exceptional knowledge of Indonesia’s birds, wildlife, habitats, and regional ecosystems. His extensive field experience includes guiding throughout Sulawesi, Halmahera, West Papua, and Java.

Diswal studied tourism and further developed his field knowledge through a Field Course in Conservation Biology. Throughout his career, he has guided birdwatchers, wildlife photographers, researchers, and nature enthusiasts from around the world. His patience, bird-finding abilities, and deep understanding of local habitats make him particularly skilled at locating Indonesia’s endemic and difficult-to-find species.

In addition to guiding, Diswal has contributed to several conservation, education, and wildlife projects. These have included conservation education seminars for the “Save the Monkey” initiative, work connected with the Macaca Nigra Project involving DPZ, IPB, and UNSRAT, and participation in a BBC wildlife documentary production. He has also worked with international organizations and tour groups, including WBCM Group Malaysia and Wildwood Tours of India.

Diswal is passionate about creating memorable and rewarding birding experiences while encouraging greater appreciation and protection of Indonesia’s extraordinary biodiversity. Although his field experience extends across several of Indonesia’s islands, he especially enjoys guiding in Sulawesi, where his local knowledge and personal connection to the region greatly enrich each tour. His favorite bird is the spectacular Knobbed Hornbill, one of Sulawesi’s most distinctive endemic species.

Diswal’s extensive experience, warm personality, patience, and enthusiasm for sharing Indonesia’s natural heritage make him an excellent choice for birders seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated local guide.
