Kansas Prairie-Chickens and Spring Migration Wetlands and Grasslands Birding
with Audubon Society of Greater Denver

  • This trip will cover a number of great sites in Eastern Colorado and Kansas.  You will visit wetlands for water birds like Black Rail and Sora, along with plenty of migrant traps for birds like Swainson’s Thrush, Hermit Thrush, Curve-billed Thrasher, Brown Thrasher, Canyon Towhee, Black-headed Grosbeak, Blue Grosbeak, Lazuli Bunting and Indigo Bunting.

  • Another key part of the trip will be an early morning visit to a prairie-chicken lek.  This particular lek site will include a mix of both Lesser Prairie-Chickens and a few Greater Prairie-Chickens, offering the opportunity to study the differences in plumage, sounds and mating dance styles.
