Texas: Lower Rio Grande Valley Winter Birding Break Itinerary

Trip Description

Brief Itinerary

Whether you are a hardcore lister or just want to see some interesting birds and escape the cold, this trip will deliver.  With so many great birding sites concentrated in a small area we will be able to maximize birding time with relatively short drives between sites, while still covering a large array of habitats.  Local birds like Green Jay, Great Kiskadee, Buff-bellied Hummingbird, Olive Sparrow, and more are found in many places, and there are often unpredictable rare visitors at one or more locations.  You will visit blinds and feeding stations which offer great views of many birds, as well as check out some lesser known sites to see wintering Burrowing Owls, roosting Peregrine Falcons, and more.  Massive squawking Red-crowned Parrot roosts make a dramatic end to some of the days, and there is plenty of good food to be had when the birding is done.  So come take a nice winter vacation and enjoy the multitude of colorful birds in south Texas!
