Inclusions: 

 

• The Tour package includes all lodging, meals*, and access fees to reserves, parks, and other birding sites. 

• Premier Bird Guide: All of our tours use the services of an excellent bird guide, often a well-recognized expert on birding in this area. Most trips have two excellent local birding guides.

• Top-Rated Preparation Services: We support your preparation for the trip. We provide information on the birds you will see and all the travel details, including all logistic details (arrival plans, trip itinerary, lodging details, and more), information on entry into South Africa, information on travel health issues, and packing information, and more. Most of our clients comment that our Trip Participation Guide is the best they have ever seen. 

• Transport and Airport Transfers: 

  • Local ground transport is included. This includes a large transport van for most of the trip and jeeps in some locations.

  • We arrange transport to the hotel at the airport upon arrival, and we arrange for a transfer back to the airport at the end of the trip.

  • The tour will likely include one internal flight, and this costs extra. 

• Acre for Bird Conservation: As part of our efforts to support bird conservation, we purchase in the name of customers (for each booking) at least one acre (but averaging between three and four acres) of wilderness to support bird conservation. As our trip prices are often 20% (and often even a better deal) less than our competition, this does not really cost you more and it is a great way to support bird conservation around the world.

• Small-Group Pricing: All the prices mentioned above for the main tour are for tour groups of six to eight participants, for the extension prices are for four to eight participants. We are happy to provide pricing for private groups with fewer than six participants.

*Pricing Notes and More Details:

 

• Trip fixed in ZAR: The trip price is fixed in South African Rand (ZAR). Pricing in US Dollars, GBP, and other currencies should be considered estimated from June 2022. A final invoice will be based upon exchange rates charged by our banks about 100 days before the start of the trip.

  • Please note that each year over the last few years (historically speaking) the US Dollar strengthens against the ZAR between the time we price the trip in July to the time the trips run the following year. So US Dollar pricing should improve.

  • Price presented in British Pounds: I believe the British Pound will strengthen in the months ahead, again giving UK clients better pricing by the time these tours actually run.

• Bank Fees: We do not charge bank fees for wire transfers for clients paying into our accounts in the United States, the United Kingdom, and/or Canada.

• Note on Meal Inclusion: Meals include three meals per day during any full day of the trip. The arrival day does include lunch and supper, as most flights arrive in the morning. The departure day includes only breakfast, as most flights leave in the morning.

• Note on Beverage Inclusion: Most of our meals are provided by the lodges, and we follow their practices in providing beverages at mealtime. Most beverages are your choice and are an additional expense that you pay to the restaurant directly. We provide water at the table for supper. We also provide bottled water during the birding day. 

• Group Size: We anticipate a group of 6 to 8 participants, and pricing is based upon this group size for the main tour, for the extension, the price is based on four to eight participants.

• 15 Days and 14 Nights: ZAR 7,000 ($ 431 USD or £250 GBP*)

• Cape Extension: ZAR 3,300 ($ 203 USD or £356 GBP*)

 

The price we charge for the additional cost of anyone not sharing a room with another birder (and/or a spouse). If you want a single room, please let us know. We are often able to find a roommate for those wanting to share a room with a person of the same sex.

 

Pre-Paid Tipping for Meals/Lodging: Gratuities for drivers, hotel, and restaurant staff are included in the pricing for this tour. However, this does not include your trip leader/bird guide. 

 

Notes on Other Tour Costs: Exclusions: 

• You will need to pay for any flight costs involved in this trip. 

  • This will include flights to Johannesburg from your home airport. 

  • The main trip ends in Durban, and from there you will have to fly to Johannesburg.

  • The main trip ends in Durban, and from there you will have to fly to Johannesburg (for flights home).  Flights from Durban to Johannesburg cost about $50 to $60 USD (40 to 50 GBP).

  • If you do the Western Cape Extension, you will likely need two internal flights. (1) The flight from Durban to Cape Town costs $60 to $80 USD (50 to 70 GBP), and (2) the flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg costs about the same.

  • You may save a little bit by booking these flights together.

  • We do book flights at actual costs, and we charge you actual costs. No booking fees are added.

• The tour fee does not include taxes/fees for entering or exiting the country, telephone calls, laundry, and other items of a personal nature.

• Tips for birding guides are not included in the tour price.
