Argentina: Key Bird Guides
Diego Monteleone

More details about this Trip:
Diego Monteleone
Diego began birding at the age of ten, around his family’s country home near Buenos Aires. Over the past 25 years, he has guided more than 300 birding and natural history tours across Argentina, sharing his deep knowledge and enthusiasm with both local and international travelers. His passion for birds and nature has also taken him beyond Argentina to explore and guide in Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Ecuador.
Diego recently completed his degree in Biology, with a thesis focused on the taxonomy and biogeography of Andean tapaculos. He has contributed to several important ornithological works, including Birds of Argentina and Uruguay (2003) and Birds of South America (2006), and has participated in various workshops related to Important Bird Areas (IBAs), endangered species, and ecotourism.
An avid sound recordist, Diego has a particular interest in bird vocalizations and South American biogeography. Many of his recordings have been published in commercial collections. He is a member of the Argentine eBird committee and is actively involved in promoting birding in the region. Diego is also a co-author of the long-awaited Where to Watch Birds in Argentina and the forthcoming Annotated Checklist of the Birds of Argentina, and collaborates regularly with Aves Argentinas/BirdLife International.
