Come explore the legendary migrant traps around High Island Texas, well known as a stopping point for a multitude of migrant birds each year after their long flight across the Gulf of Mexico. See Scarlet Tanagers, Hooded Warblers, Wood Thrush, Veery, Cerulean Warbler, Swainson's Warbler, Ovenbird, Blackburnian Warbler, Painted Bunting, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Blue-winged Warbler, Baltimore Oriole, Black-throated Green Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, and much more. With luck, the weather conditions may be right for a rare "fallout" event that drives birds down by the thousands!

We will travel down the bolivar peninsula to enjoy some beach birding, where we can see Black Tern, Wilson's Plover, Snowy Plover, American Avocet, American Oystercatcher, Reddish Egret, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, White-tailed Kite, Nelson's Sparrow, Seaside Sparrow, and Clapper Rail.

We will be sure to spend a morning at Anahuac NWR to see numerous marsh birds, including Purple Gallinule, King Rail, American Bittern, Least Bittern, and Fulvous Whistling-duck.
And a trip to High Island is not complete without a visit to the Smith Oaks Rookery, where hundreds of Roseate Spoonbills, Snowy Egrets, Great Egrets, and Neotropic Cormorants gather to nest each year.

Finally we will spend the last days birding in the east texas pineywoods, looking for Fish Crow, Swallow-tailed Kite, Bachman's Sparrow, Pine Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Brown-headed Nuthatch, and visiting a nesting colony of Red-cockaded Woodpeckers.
Due to the centralized location of all these sites we will be able to spend all but the final night in the same hotel, no packing up and moving every other day!
