Enchanting Ecuador – Birding the Andes to the Amazon

This will be a fantastic birding tour with a focus on the Amazon and the excellent birding from lodges on the eastern slope of the Andes (east of Quito). Many new and experienced world birders love to visit eastern Ecuador as the lodges are a great value and the birding is always productive, with many species seen each day and always new life birds to be found. These trips are filled with tanagers, hummingbirds and a number of primarily Amazonian species such as: White-capped Tanager, Paradise Tanager, Saffron-crowned Tanager, Chestnut-breasted Chlorophonia, Golden-collared Honeycreeper, Peruvian Racket-tail, Napo Sabrewing, Gould's Jewelfront, King Vulture, Golden-collared Toucanet, and more.

These trips are well planned to focus on bird watching. With excellent guides, we can expect to see over 400 species on our 10 day trip. These trips are filled with Tanagers, Hummingbirds and a number of amazing Amazonian species. Mammal highlights will include: Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth, Golden-mantled Saddle-back Tamarin, Marañon White-fronted Capuchin, Humboldt’s Squirrel Monkey, Spix’s night Monkey, Red-crowned Titi Monkey, Linnaeus’s Red Howler Monkey, Red-tailed Squirrel, Amazon Dwarf Squirrel, Sac-winged Bats, Greater Bulldog Bat, or perhaps a rare larger mammal.

San Isidro and Wild Sumaco, and birding the Eastern Andes and Amazon set the stage for viewing many species not seen elsewhere in the rest of the Americas.

Depending on the timing of the tour, we may have a chance to add a one day and one night extension to see the Harpy Eagle.
