Malaysia: Birding the Rainforests of Borneo with Orangutan and More

This tour will focus on the spectacular endemic birds that are found on the equatorial island of Borneo, including the Blue-headed Pitta, Whitehead’s Trogon, Bornean Forktail, the diminutive Bornean Stubtail, Kinabalu Friendly Warbler, White-fronted Falconet, one of the world’s smallest raptors, and Bornean Bristlehead, the only member of its monotypic family.

The 52 avian endemics are accompanied by a fantastic selection of other rainforest species, rich in hornbills, broadbills, pittas, and wren-babblers, and many more restricted to the Indo-Malayan region.

Aside from birds, mammals are reason enough to visit. Borneo is one of the best places in Asia for mammal watching, with species that include the charming Bornean Orangutan, bizarre Proboscis Monkey, and Bornean Pygmy Elephant being the highlights of a long list of mammals that is particularly rich in primates and squirrels.  Borneo is also home to the remarkable Rafflesia, one of the largest flowers on earth.
