With almost 600 birds and more than 80% resident species, Belize is a great introduction to neotropical birding. You will be able to see many species of the New World families such as toucans, motmots, woodcreepers and trogons, to name a few.
In addition to Belize, you can add an extension to Tikal National Park in neighboring Guatemala. Tikal was built around the 4th century BC and was the center of the vast Mayan empire. Tikal was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Everyone in the group will have the opportunity to learn more about the Mayan culture and rich history of the Americas, and this 200 plus square mile national park is a paradise for bird watchers.
