Note: We have priced nearly all of our trips. Pricing is indicated for 80% of our trips on this web page. Please contact us about pricing on any other trip and/or to clarify any pricing information.
Also, please contact us so that you can see a detailed invoice so that you know exactly what you are paying for. We like our customers to know what is included in their trip pricing. Our goal is that there be no surprises on trip costs.
Bolivia, Highlands: Each Adult: 2012
- Basic Trip for 8 Days and 8 Nights: $2,190 to $2,390 for shared accommodations. Minimum of six
persons.
- Includes lodging, meals, access fees, guides, internal transportation (vehicle and flight La Paz to
Cochabamba) and other services.
- Additional Costs and Pricing:
- Single accommodations (no room mate) $200 more (some limitations on availability here).
- This trip with Lelis is $2,390.
- $580 more per participant if only 4 participants.
- Airline cost not included and estimated at $900 to $1,200.
- Trip prices assume that fuel prices remain regulated. The government has proposed
deregulating fuel prices last year, but this was politically unpopular and is likely politically impossible. If fuel prices are deregulated, the trip price could be $200 higher.
- The Coroico Road and Apaapa Reserve extensions are often a go on this trip at about $940 for four
additional days of birding (and four nights lodging) with the interest of just four participants.
Bolivia, Lowlands to Highlands: Each Adult: 2012
- Basic Trip for 13 Days and 13 Nights: $2,990 to $3,190 for shared accommodations.
- Includes lodging, meals, access fees, guides, internal transportation (vehicle) and other services.
- Additional Costs and Pricing:
- Single accommodations (no room mate) $300 more (some limitations on availability here).
- $600 more per participant if only 4 participants.
- Airline cost not included and estimated at $900 to $1,200.
- Trip prices assume that fuel prices remain regulated. The government has proposed
deregulating fuel prices last year, but this was politically unpopular and is likely politically impossible. If fuel prices are deregulated, the trip price could be $200 to $400 higher.
- Trips with Lelis Navarrete as guide are only $200 more per person at $3,190 price.
- The Lake Titicaca/Sorata, Coroico Road and Apaapa Reserve extensions are often a go on this trip at
about $1,090 for five additional days of birding with the interest of just five participants.
Brazil, Atlantic Forest: Each Adult: 2012
- Basic Trip for 9 Days and 8 Nights: $2,890 to $3,390 for shared accommodations. Airline cost not
included (see below). These are trips lead by Lelis Navarrete or Bruno Lima.
- Includes lodging, meals, access fees, guides, internal transportation (vehicle) and other services.
- Additional Costs and Pricing:
- Single accommodations (no room mate) $540 more (some limitations on availability here).
- About $700 more per participant if only 4 participants on most trips.
- Airline cost not included and estimated at $900 to $1,200. Local flights not needed with most
Atlantic Forest itineraries.
- An exchange rate used for pricing these trips was 1.56 Real on the US Dollar. The trip price
will be adusted if the US currency falls farther, and this will be about $200 for each one tenth of a Real on the dollar. A fuel supplement ($50) is possible for this trip if fuel prices again rise rapidly (not expected).
- Extension Pricing: A number of extension options are available with pricing at about $300 per day
(assuming good participation and depending upon location of extension).
Brazil, Pantanal and Rio Cristalino: Each Adult
- Basic Trip for 8 Days and 8 Nights: $3,190 for shared accommodations with a minimum of 6
participants. Priced with Lelis as guide.
- Includes lodging, meals, access fees, guides, internal transportation (vehicle) and other services.
- Additional Costs and Pricing:
- Single accommodations (no room mate) $400 more (some limitations on availability here).
- $580 more per participant if only 4 participants.
- Airline cost not included and estimated at $900 to $1,200.
- A fuel supplement ($50) is possible for this trip if fuel prices again rise rapidly (not expected).
- Note: Exchange rates can play havoc with Brazil pricing, so please call to confirm.
- Flights to Brazil are not included. Local airline flights are not included. We anticipate four legs
of internal flights (Sao Paulo to Cuibaba to Alta Floresta to Cuibaba to Sao Paolo) to be about $700 with an ecopass (and purchased well in advance). We have recently found package deals on all flights from USA and including all four legs of internal flights at $1,400 to $1,800.
- Best extension option on this trip is Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park. Three additional days
for $890, depending upon participation. Additional days also possible in Atlantic Forest.

Colombia: Cauca and Magdalena Valleys Trip in 2011: Each Adult

- Santa Marta Extension Pricing for 6 Days and 6 Nights in Santa Marta: Starting at $1,990 for shared
accomodations and all meals (except 2 suppers). Also, add flight cost Bogata to Santa Marta round trip is $420 (most cases); however, some careful combinations of international and internal flights can save a few hundred dollars here. Minimum six participants and no host.

Ecuador: Amazon Rainforest Trip or Extension: Each Adult Birding with excellent lodge-based guide for nearly 5 days. Includes 6 nights lodging, including 4 at eco- lodge in Amazon basin and 2 nights in Quito. Includes internal air travel Quito to Coca and return (with transfers from Quito hotel). Includes all meals while in Amazon basin, and breakfasts in Quito.
- As pre-trip or post trip extension to any trip from Quito, only $1,290. One less day in Amazon basin,

Ecuador Galapagos Trip: Each Adult
- Fantastic bird oriented trip (with birding naturalist with 8 days in Galapagos) for 10 Days and 10 Nights
(3 in Quito and 7 on Galapagos boat): $3,990. This trip will get you most Galapagos endemics in 2012. Pricing based on full or near full boat.
- Includes air transfers to and from Galapagos Islands.
- Includes travel and accommodations around Galapagos Islands on yacht.
- International airline cost not included and estimated from $600 to $1,200, and often booked around
$800.
- Note: Numerous other Galapagos trips from about $2,900 to $3,900 (depending upon length and
Galapagos yacht used). These trips offered numerous times each week and include naturalist guide (but not necessarily a naturalist guide and trip aimed at viewing endemic bird species).
Guyana: Each Adult
- Basic Trip for 10 Days and 10 Nights: $3,190 for shared accommodations for each adult in group of
8. Please call to discuss pricing and availability for single supplement. Always happy to provide choices for sharing lodging.

from $650 to $900 (been going form $720). A fuel supplement is possible on this trip and was about $40 per person in 2009.
Namibia, October 2009: Each Adult for Small Group of 4 to 6
- Basic Trip for 13 Days and 13 Nights: $4,100 for shared accommodations for each adult in group of 6.
If only 4 participants, the cost increases by $800 per participant. Airline cost not included and estimated from $1400 to $2,200, but save plenty on airfare by booking both the Namibia and South Africa trips.
- Basic Trip for 13 Days and 13 Nights: $4,500 for single room accommodations for each adult in a
group of 6. Airline cost not included and estimated from $1600 to $2,400. If only 4 participants, the cost increases by $800 per participant.
- Includes all lodging, meals, access fees, guides, and other services.
- Exclusions: See typical pricing exclusions below. Fuel currently based on 9 ZAR per litre. A fuel
supplement is possible on this trip and could range from $30 to $70 per person. If exchange rates drop below 7.5 ZAR to the USD, further pricing adjustments will be necessary. Lodging rates are based upon early bookings, and late bookings may result in higher prices to those participants booking late. Additional tax levies or increases in park entrance fees (which are not likely) could result in higher pricing.
Peru: Cuzco to Manu, 2012:
- Basic Trip for 15 Days and 14 Nights: $3,590 for shared accommodations with six persons
minimum. International airline cost to Lima (estimated at $700 to $1,100) and internal flights to Cuzco and from Puerto Maldanado (runs from $210 to $260) are not included. Single supplement cost is $840.
- 5 day and 5 night Machu Picchu extension priced depending upon participation. Please contact us.
Expected at about $1,190 (nice lodging) to $1,350 (top rated lodging) with 4 persons. $200 less if six persons on extension trip. This trip is $1,550 for four persons as a stand alone trip, so worth taking advantage of if you are in Cuzco on a birding trip.
- Includes lodging, meals, access fees, boat launches, guides, and other services.
- A fuel supplement is possible for this trip due to rising gasoline prices. You may be charged
additional based upon higher gasoline costs (estimate $20 to $40).
- Shorter 12 day trip is only $2,690 with many of the same exclusions and inclusions as above. Please

Peru: Northern Peru for 2012:
- Basic Trip for 13 Days and 14 Nights: $3,490 for shared accommodations. Six person minimum.
- Includes lodging, meals, access fees, guides, internal transportation (by vehicle) and other services.
Internal flights are not included, but booked for most early trip registrants between $220 and $280.
- Additional Costs and Pricing:
- Single accomodations (no room mate) $400 more.
- Trips with Lelis Navarrete as guide are $100 more.
- $600 more per trip if only 4 participants.
- International airline cost not included and estimated at $600 to $900. Round trip to and then
from Lima.
- Fuel supplement of $20 to $40 is possible if oil price increase dramatically. We have never
charged a fuel supplement on this trip.
- Extension Trip for 2 Nights and 2 Days: $490 to $590 depending upon participation from 4 to 6.

Sri Lanka, February 2011: Each Adult
- Basic Trip for 14 Days and 13 Nights: $2,950 for shared accommodations. Airline cost not included
and estimated from $1,600 to $2,000.
- If you would like a single room (no room mate), please add $450 to the prices indicated above.
Please let us know if you would like some help finding some one to share lodging.
- Includes all lodging, all morning breakfasts, all evening dinners, access fees, guides, and other
services.
- Note: Noon meals (lunch) is not included in the price. Budgeting $6 to $10 for lunch will cover most
participants and likely add another $90 to $140 to your trip cost.
South Africa, November 2009: Each Adult
- Basic Trip for 10 Days and 10 Nights: $2,950 for shared accommodations for each adult in group of
8. If only 4 to 7 participants, the cost increases by $200 per participant. Single room accommodations add $300.
- Kruger National Park Extension: Another 5 Days and 4 Nights: $1,200 for shared accommodations for
each adult in group of 6 or more. If only 4 participants, the cost increases by $200 per participant. Single room accommodations add $200.
- Includes all lodging, meals, access fees, guides, ground transportation and other services.
- Exclusions: See typical pricing exclusions below. In addition, Airline cost not included and estimated
from $1400 to $1,800. Save on airfare by booking Namibia trip as well. Internal flights not included and likely $160 to $320 depending upon travel plans. A fuel supplement is possible on this trip and was about $40 per person in 2009. Fuel currently based on 9 ZAR per litre. If exchange rates drop below 7.5 ZAR to the USD, further pricing adjustments will be necessary. Lodging rates are based upon early bookings, and late bookings may result in higher prices to those participants booking late. Additional tax levies or increases in park entrance fees (which are not likely) could result in higher pricing.
Uganda, 2010 and 2011: Each Adult
- Basic Trip for 11 Days and 11 Nights: $3,790 for shared accommodations. This is with a minimun of
5 participants. Early sign up (six months in advance of trip and some exceptions for holidays) save $200 and trip at only $3,590.
- Includes local transportation (by safari style Toyota Land Cruiser), lodging, meals (with 2 exceptions),
access fees, boat launch fees, guides, and other services.
- Additional Costs and Pricing:
- Single accommodations (no room mate) $900 more. Sometimes not available.
- $400 more per trip if only 4 participants.
- Hosted trip (Harry Fuller) in November 2010, add $400. No hosts planned for 2011 trips.
- Airline cost not included and estimated at $1,400 to $2,400.
- Room rates may increase by 5% in some locations, adding $150 to 2011 pricing. That being
said, this is not expected due to recession and the total increase would not exceed $150.
- A fuel supplement is possible for this trip due to rising gasoline prices. You may be charged
additional based upon higher gasoline costs (estimate $50 to $150).
- The current Mountain Gorilla trek fee is currently a $500 fee from Bwindi National Park. It may
increase in 2011 (but not likely).
In most cases, pricing is set once a trip is booked. All prices subject to change due to exchange rate fluctuation in several countries. We will notify you if exchange rates impact lodging and other travel expenses to the extent that we need to change prices on a trip. The only other possible change in trip prices is from fuel supplements on some trips if oil prices start to rise again. In rare cases, access fees are raised significantly without prior warning. We have only adjusted trip pricing on two trips in the last eight years.
All participants must sign the Partnership for International Birding Liability Waiver. Any participant, who has not signed a Liability Waiver, 45 days prior to their trip will be assessed a $50 late fee. To date (December 14, 2009), no one has been charged this additional late fee. A copy of a trip liability waiver can be obtained by sending a request to charles@pibird.com.
Typical Trip Pricing Exclusions: (1) Prices for all trips do not include airline travel to and from the starting and departure destination for your trip. Prices do not include airport or county entry or departure taxes (which are sometimes included in your airfare). (2) Your costs for obtaining a Visa (if required) is not included. (3) Cost of a personal nature (all alcoholic drinks, snacks and drinks during the day, laundry, and other personal costs) are not included. (4) Tips are not included. (5) Insurance of any kind is not included. (6) Extra baggage costs for local airline travel is not included.
