

| Sunday, March 20: We will drive up the Rio Grande River Valley to Falcon Dam area. We'll visit Salineño, Chapeño, San Ygnacio, etc. Possibilities include White-collared Seedeater, Muscovy Duck, Red-billed Pigeon, Audubon’s Oriole, Brown Jay. Monday, March 21: In the morning: Alan William’s Yard in the Pharr Valley just east of McAllen. Specialties at feeders and water features include Plain Chachalaca, Buff-breasted Hummingbird and White-eyed Vireo. The setting is very photo friendly. In the afternoon: Nearby Bensten Rio Grande Valley State Park. Possibilities include Altamira Oriole, Kiskadee, Hook-billed Kite, Tropical Parula, Green Jay, Plain Chachalaca. Tuesday, March 22: In the morning: Santa Anna National Wildlife Refuge. It is just downstream from McAllen. Possibilities include White-tipped Dove, Common Paraque and Olive Sparrow. In the afternoon: Estero Llano Grande State Park. Possibilities include many waterfowl and Groove-billed Ani. We will end the day at our new accommodations in Harlingen. Wednesday, March 23: In the morning: Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge on the coast of gulf of Mexico. Possiblilities include Black Vulture, White-tailed Hawk, Crested Caracara and shorebirds. In the afternoon we will be at the Sabal Palm Grove Sanctuary. Possibilities here include Least Grebe, 3 Kingfisher species, Great Kiskadee, This one is a great picture subject, bright and bold. Gray-crowned Yellowthroat. Thursday, March 24: In the morning: South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center. Possibilities include shorebirds, Least Bittern, Purple Gallinule and American Alligator. In the afternoon: Boca Chica Beach east of Brownsville on the Gulf Coast: Shorebirds, ducks and seabirds, for example: Neotropic Cormorant, Reddish Egret, White and White-faced Ibis, Roseate Spoonbill, Black-bellied Whistling-Duck and Mottled Duck. Friday, March 25: Early start to South Padre Island Birding & Nature Center enjoying shore birds and other local birds (such as Purple Gallinule) and wildlife (American Alligator). Afternoon at Boca Chica Beach (mostly a wildlife area), before late day transfer back to McAllen. Saturday, March 26: AM flights from McAllen. * Extension Plans: Once six persons on trip we will likely plan and offer an extension trip. |
