| Important Details on Flights for Machu Picchu Trip: 1. We do not recommend purchasing an international plane ticket until you get the word the trip is full enough to meet the minimum number of participants. Purchasing before this will likely leave you with re-booking charges from the airlines. 2. Hurrying to book plane tickets, often creates unnecessary worrying. Though prices seem to fluctuate, best pricing seems to occur 3 or 4 months before the trip. Nearly all trips are a go (meeting minimum participation) at this point in time. 3. We recommend you use www.kayak.com to purchase your plane ticket. We make no fees off these referrals, we just like this website. We are more than happy to book international flights for you, but this will cost you another $50 fee from us. The Kayak website is most user friendly, and most of our customers book their flights here (and with no fees or minimal fees). 4. Please fly in on the arrival day for your trip. a. Many folks doing this extension in 2011 will be doing it after they have completed the Manu Biosphere Trip. They will already be in Cuzco on August 21. b. Folks enjoying Machu Picchu before the Manu Biosphere Trip (and/or as a solo trip), must be in Cuzco on August 21, arriving most anytime. Most people will choose to arrive in Lima on August 20, paying lodging and sometimes transfer/taxi charges there. c. Your international flight will be flying into Lima in Peru and out of Lima in Peru. However, everyone must be in Cuzco on August 21. 5A: If you are enjoying the Machu Picchu extension trip (after the Manu Biosphere trip), you should fly out of Lima on the 19th day of the trip (18 days after your arrival day). You start the day out in Ollantaytambo and should make 2 PM flight Cuzco to Lima that day. Maybe allow 3 or 4 hours before making plans to board your international flight after 6 PM and maybe later that day. Because we cannot guarantee passage Cuzco to Lima (until that flight is booked), it is important to book the international flight after this local flight is booked (to avoid flight rescheduling charges with airlines). This should be August 26 in 2011. 5A -Alternative 2: Some folks may choose to spend the night in Lima at the end of day 19 (August 26), and then fly home on day 20 (August 27). Extra lodging and transfer charges in Lima are likely here. 5B - If you are doing Machu Picchu as a pre-trip, then you will stay in Cuzco and start main trip on August 27. Please email us at info@pibird.com (or use your other customer service contact at the PIB). Also, feel free to call our toll free number at 1-888-203-7464 (extension 912 and Charles). Charles is the best person to confirm flight details with. We really do enjoy taking care of your concerns and addressing any issues you may have. |
