Marvelous Spatuletail and More
Day 1:  Arrival and fly to Lima.
Day 2:  Flight to coastal city of Chiclayo, and biirding
Pomac Protected Forest.
Day 3:  Birding Chaparri Reserve.
Day 4:  More birding in Chaparri Reserve, then birding
for several key species along way across the Abra
Porculla Pass to Jaen.
Day 5:  Gotas de Agua Reserve and other mountain
forests around Jaen.
Day 6:  Look for several key species Jaen to Abra Patricia
Reserve, and visit
Huembo Hummingbird Gardens.
Day 7:  Birding all day at Abra Patricia for a number of
key species, such as Long-whiskered Owlet.
Day 8:  Birding the montane forest and the foothills of
Alto Mayo Protected Forest.
Day 9: Final birding from Abra Patricia, and then travel
back to Chiclayo.  Flights home that evenint to Lima.

Day 10: Departures home or see extension options below.
  • Most clients will fly home this day.  All the clients
    enjoying only the main trip should depart on Day 10.

  • We may offer a one day birding extension from
    Lima for those taking evening flights and/or for
    those taking two day extension.

More Details on This Trip
This trip will be at a more relaxed pace than our usual
Northern Peru trip.  With a shorter and more affordable
itinerary and a more relaxed pace, the trip will still find
close to 300 species.  

The trip will cover a number of habitats and altitudinal
zones from lowland rainforest and wetlands, to dry and
deciduous forest, to montane forest and cloud forest.
This mix of habitat and altitude and a well-planned
itinerary will assure seeing a number of species at an
enjoyable and relaxed pace of birding.

Besides great hummingbirds and tanagers, the trip will
also be filled with a number of fantastic Inca-Finches.   
  • A number of Peruvian endemics and birds endemic
    to Ecuador and Peru can be seen, including
    Marvelous Spatuletail.  The trip should pick up a
    good number endemics.
  • Other key special and fantastic bird species
    include Coppery Metaltail,  Peruvian Plantcutter,
    White-winged Guan, and Black-necked
    Woodpecker

The trip will stay at a number of eco-lodges, including
Abra Patricia Lodge and Chaparri Reserve and Lodge.

Our 2011 trips have been filled.  We usually run this trip
twice per year.  Please consider our 2012 dates.

April 28 to May 13, 2012:
Northern Peru with Lelis
Navarrete (with extension to May 15).

July 8 to 17, 2012: Northern Peru with Xavier Munoz and
BG Adams.  This will be a more relaxed paced trip at a
special price.
