Birding in North Dakota and Boreal Forest in Minnesota
Brief Overview of the Trip
Day 1:  Arrival into Fargo and get to birding in area
(depending upon flight times)

Days 2 to 4:  From Jamestown Arrowhead National
Wildlife Refuge, Horsehead Lake, Chase Lake
National Wildlife Refuge
and Alkaline Lake

Day 5:  Transfer to Minnesota Boreal Forest.  Birding in
Bemedji area and including Itasca State Park and key
local spots.

Day 6:  Birding Big Bog State Recreation Area and
Beltrami State Forest near Baudette, Minnesota. Owling
potential at night.

Day 7:  Birding a number of locations towards Roseau,
Minnesota, including another area of
Beltrami State
Forest and Lake Hays State Park.
Then after arrival in
Roseau, Lost River State Forest and likely
Roseau
Wildlife Management Area
. Good owling as well.

Day 8:  Birding Back to Fargo including Agassiz National
Wildlife Refuge or Twin Lakes Wildlife Management
Area
, and other local spots. Flights home that evening
after 7 PM.

Pricing Details
$1,490 Trip price includes lodging for six plus days of
birding and seven nights. Transport by van is included.  
Bird Guiding and trip planning services are included.  
Breakfast is included with the lodging we have booked.   
This price is per person and assumes a shared room
(with another roommate or spouse).  

Above pricing assumes willing to share room with
spouse or room mate.  We can help fund room
mates if you so desire, and otherwise single room
supplement is $420 additional.

Not Included in Pricing:  Prices do not include flights to
Fargo (currently about $250 to $400 from most
parts of the United States). The price of noon and
evening meals are not included.  We estimate twelve to
fourteen meals can be had for an average of $9 to $14.  
So budget another another $110 to $180. You will pay
your actual costs and are free to spend more (Tips).

More Details on This Trip
This trip covers the prairie potholes habitat in North
Dakota and the boreal forest in Minnesota.  Numerous
other habitats are visited, resulting in a productive birding
trip.  For most North American birders these locales have
not yet been visited even though birding on this trip can
result in numerous target species and an expansion of
one's life list.  

Target species include Yellow Rail, Piping Plover, Sedge
Wren, Sprague's Pipit , Baird's Sparrow, LeConte's
Sparrow, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow,
Chestnut-collared Longspur, Black-backed Woodpecker,
Ruffed Grouse, Northern Hawk Owl, Red-necked Grebe,
Sandhill Cranes, Boreal Chickadee, Great Gray Owl,
Spruce Grouse.  Boreal Owl, Three-toed Woodpecker,
Boreal Chickadee, Alder Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied
Flycatcher, and Pine Grosbeak.

We hope to see as many as 20 species of nesting
warblers, including Connecticut Warbler, Golden-winged
Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Pine
Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Mourning Warbler,
Magnolia Warbler, Palm Warbler, Canada Warbler,
Black-throated Green Warbler, and Golden-winged
Warbler.
Other excellent species include Sharp-tailed Grouse,
Upland Sandpiper, Marbled Godwit, Short-eared Owl,
Olive-sided Flycatcher, Broad-winged Hawk, Evening
Grosbeak, Black-billed Cuckoo, Wood Thrush, Olive-sided
Flycatcher, Purple Finch and more.

We are offering one trip in early June, and may add a
second as these trips have proved popular in the past.
