| David has been a serious birder since 1994. In the mid-nineties, he started leading local field trips for the Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society (TOS). That soon led to organizing trips farther afield. In 2004 David and his brother started a nature tour company that led trips all around the US and to other countries, including Panama, Ecuador, Mexico and Belize. David is now a partner in the Partnership for International Birding. In addition to birding, David spends a lot of time documenting species for county lists and photographing butterflies and dragonflies. David is also involved in annual BioBlitzes in east Knox County at Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge and has been newsletter editor, vice-president and president of the Knoxville Chapter of TOS, as well as treasurer of the statewide TOS. He works at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and has M.S. degree from there and a B.S. in biology research from the Univ. of Scranton in Pennsylvania. His job in the Entomology & Plant Pathology department involves research in the use of natural products for plant pest control, as well as related plant disease studies. |
| "David really enjoys finding and showing you the key species for the trip. David's love of birds and all nature makes the trip enjoyable and fun." |
