Colorado has 13 well sought after birds and numerous
others, making our back yard in Colorado one of the
most enjoyable birding trips for bird watchers.  Every
birder wants stunning looks at these leks in the spring,
watching displaying Lesser Prairie-Chicken, Greater
Prairie-Chicken, Gunnison Sage-Grouse (Colorado's
endemic species) and Greater Sage-Grouse.   The
three Rosy-Finches are gorgeous birds, and their
huge flocks can be spectacular.   Also in the high
mountains, we will help you find White-tailed Ptarmigan
and Blue Grouse.  Then to the grasslands for
McCown's Longspur, Chestnut-collared Longspur, and
Mountain Plover.  Always remember, Colorado offers
several other specialities, and Mike is sure to help you
find them.

Mike Flieg has been offering Colorado Grouse trips for
over twenty years.  This opportunity provides you four
good choices every April to find these birds with one of
the most experienced Colorado Grouse bird guides.

Day 1-Sunday-Denver to Allenspark and then
Pawnee National Grasslands.
 We start from
Denver early to get to Allenspark for Rosy Finches in
the morning.  We then head to Pawnee National
Grasslands where we will find Mountain Plover,
McGown’s Longspur, and Chestnut-collared
Longspurs.  We spend the night in Fort Collins.

Day 2-Monday-Ft. Collins to Walden through
Poudre Canyon to Cameron Pass.
We head up the
Poudre Canyon today.  We will take several stops to
find American Dipper and a few other stops will be
worthwhile for the Rosy-Finches (filling in any species
we may have missed).  Several other birding stops
along the way. We spend the night in Walden.

Day 3- Tuesday- Greater Sage Grouse and then
to Steamboat Springs.
In the morning, we start early
for great looks at the Greater Sage-Grouse lek.  After
a successful morning of birding, we then head to
Steamboat Springs where we will spend the night.   In
the afternoon, we will try one of Mike's reliable spots
for Dusky Grouse.

Day 4-Wednesday- Sharp-tailed Grouse,
Gunnison and Loveland Pass.
 In the morning, we
will observe a reliable Sharp-tailed Grouse lek.
Afterwards, we proceed to Loveland Pass to look for
White-tailed Ptarmigan.  We then proceed to Gunnison
for the night.

Day 5-Thursday-Gunnison Sage Grouse and off to
Lamar.
In the morning, we will observe an active lek
for  Gunnison Sage-Grouse.  We then will bird on our
way to Lamar.  This is a long drive with a few birding
stops to stretch our legs.  We spend the night in
Lamar.

Day 6-Friday-AM Lesser Prairie Chicken:  Then
Holly to Wray.
 We start our southeast Colorado
birding near Holly where we will find Lesser Prairie-
Chickens strutting on their lek.  We will try a few local
birding spots before heading to Wray for the night.

Day 7-Saturday- Greater Prairie Chicken and then
DIA to Points Home.
In the morning, we will find
Greater Prairie-Chicken on a reliable lek site.  By
about 9 AM, we will drive to Denver International
Airport.  All flights should leave after 2 PM that day.
